"When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever." - 2 samuel 7.12-13
God makes this promise with david, that from his line, or his offspring, God will establish a kingdom forever. Even though the people of the time most likely thought that this would mean a kingdom that conquered the world like a giant empire. God's plan was to establish a kingdom through Jesus Christ.
God had a clear plan for his people. We see this in the genealogy in matthew chapter 1. There is a list of people leading up to Jesus, David being right in the middle. God made a promise to David and carried it out. Though maybe not the way David thought it would happen.
This is the same for us and our lives. God HAS a plan for you. God makes promises to us through his scriptures. Sometimes though it is not as clear as we might want. We need to remember thatHE is in control. and when we look at promises of the old testament we can look and see that they did in fact come true, and hold on to hope that in the same way, God will keep the promises he makes to us.
"The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: "One of your own descendants I will place on your throne-" psalm 132.11
