so good huh? many of us know about this passage, or know this passage. Today its time for verse 13. then we will tackle the rest of it.
It was passover, time to go to the temple. So jesus went up to jerusalem. Now, heres something i want to point out. Many times people get fed up with "religion." I know people who dont go to church on sunday because church is home groups or quality time spent in discussion and want to get away from the tradition of it all; and there is something to be said for all that.
After all, all our time spent studying the prodigal son in luke 15 shows us that religion is just as bad as rebellion when used to glorify ourselves, right? so where is the balance?
Jesus shows us. in the story of him getting thrown out of his hometown... he was going to church, meeting with people in community, right? And here, we see the tradition upheld. Passover was a celebration, the exodus and freedom from israel, when the Lord rescued his people from the slavery of the egyptians. so he goes to church. we will talk about what he does tomorrow, but for today; are you part of a community? Do you go to church because you should? or because you want to worship?
Jesus went to worship. to remember. I used to hate going to church on easter and christmas. everyone goes who doesnt normally, its busy, and seemingly fake and superficial. But its about remembering, honoring, TRUE WORSHIP.
