Nicodemus.

lets just keep going with John(its my favorite gospel.)

after all the temple stuff, jesus is still in j-town (jerusalem) and this guy comes to him.

John 3.1-2

This guy shows up at night. why?

he is afraid. he is one of those people who is starting to hate Jesus, he has probably heard the way his peers are talking about him... but he is curious, Nicodemus sees more. See, the pharisees were so self involved they did not see the big picture, but not Nic, he was smart, and his heart was really seeking God, so he comes to jesus.

I love what he says to Jesus, that God must be with you... he sees something different. Verse 1 tells us he is not only and expert in the law, but a ruler of those, he is like a judge, and important dude for sure. But he calls jesus rabbi, a sign of respect. why? he saw God.

I have mentioned this before but i love that in john all of Jesus miracles are called signs.

BECAUSE THEY POINT TO GOD.

See, jesus was not there to do tricks for people, to impress people, NO. he was there to give God glory. Which hsould be the goal for anyone who claims the name of jesus. to give God glory. if you do anything out of selfish ambition woe to you, its about GOD.

jesus knew this. He cleansed the temple to give God glory, he healed people to show them God, he died for us, that we might see his father, God, is good.

Nicodemus saw this. Jesus, all he did, all he was, pointed to God.

Who are you? who do your actions point to? yourself? material things? popularity?

or the GOD of the universe.

why do you do what you do? can people see God? or are you in the way?
